{"id":10141,"date":"2024-02-13T16:53:54","date_gmt":"2024-02-13T22:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/?p=10141"},"modified":"2024-02-15T11:44:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T17:44:47","slug":"southern-arkansas-university-projects-supports-national-days-of-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/2024\/southern-arkansas-university-projects-supports-national-days-of-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Southern Arkansas University projects supports national days of service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy, Southern Arkansas University recently hosted food drive events in partnership with Engage Arkansas.<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9335\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/MLK-Day-of-Service-Logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"369\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/MLK-Day-of-Service-Logo.png 369w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/MLK-Day-of-Service-Logo-300x156.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 369px) 100vw, 369px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Black Student Association and Greek organizations held an on-campus food drive to collect canned goods.\u00a0 These donations were provided to the Mulerider Market, which serves our most vulnerable students on the SAU campus.<\/p>\n<p>The Mulerider Market and Food Pantry hosted additional opportunities for individuals to donate personal hygiene items, canned goods, snacks, and bottled water.\u00a0 On-campus collection locations included the Donald W Reynolds Center, Overstreet Hall, the Ozmer House, and the Mulerider Activity Center.\u00a0 Numerous community partners, such as Bodcaw Bank, Peoples Bank, Magnolia Bake Shop, Bridget\u2019s On the Square, Mac\u2019s Cash Saver, and Piggly Wiggly, volunteered to serve as collection locations for donations.<\/p>\n<p>The SAU Foundation facilitated an online giving option for virtual donations for this food drive initiative.\u00a0 The opportunity to donate to this initiative will remain open through February.\u00a0 This is a way for supporters of SAU to participate from afar.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9336 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/ENGAGE-Ark-Logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/ENGAGE-Ark-Logo.png 1992w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/ENGAGE-Ark-Logo-300x98.png 300w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/ENGAGE-Ark-Logo-1024x335.png 1024w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/ENGAGE-Ark-Logo-768x251.png 768w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/news\/files\/2023\/01\/ENGAGE-Ark-Logo-1536x503.png 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/>The Rider Recovery program, another initiative to fight hunger on the SAU campus, commenced in January.\u00a0 This is a partnership with Aramark, the campus food service provider.\u00a0 This program provides food that is prepared as frozen food options for students visiting the Mulerider Market.<\/p>\n<p>Mulerider Market extends gratitude to those that donated to this effort.\u00a0 To participate in the ongoing opportunity, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/saumag.thankview.com\/video\/74e165c405a84180b\">link<\/a> or contact, <a href=\"mailto:kagean@saumag.edu\">Kathy Gean.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy, Southern Arkansas University recently hosted food drive events in partnership with Engage Arkansas.
