The Department of Physics and Engineering is excited to announce that Dr. Mahbub Ahmed, Associate Professor of Engineering, recently passed the Autodesk Certified Professional: AutoCAD exam and is now an AutoCAD Certified Professional. To receive this certification, Dr. Ahmed had to demonstrate his proficiency in advanced AutoCAD skills, including complex workflow and design challenges, on a nationally standardized comprehensive exam. “Earning this certification is a great achievement, enhancing not only Dr. Ahmed’s profile but our department’s status as well,” said Dr. Abdel Bachri, chair of the department and dean of the College of Science and Engineering.
Dr. Ahmed has also earned certifications in SolidWorks, an industry-standard solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) program which is used by over 3.5 million licensees worldwide. Dr. Ahmed is currently certified as both a SolidWorks Accredited Educator and a Certified SolidWorks Professional (CWSP) in Mechanical Design.
During his time at SAU, Dr. Ahmed also earned his Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Arkansas, which was the result of many years of study and professional experience. PE licensure is the engineering profession’s highest standard of competence, a symbol of achievement and assurance of quality. To become licensed as a PE, engineers must complete a four-year college degree and pass two intensive competency exams before finally earning a license from their state’s licensure board. Then, to retain their licenses, PEs must continually maintain and improve their skills throughout their careers. Dr. Ahmed joins Dr. Sam Heintz, Associate Professor of Engineering at SAU, who also holds a Professional Engineer license in Arkansas.
In the words of Dr. Bachri, “Dr. Ahmed currently serves as the ABET coordinator and chairs the ABET committee, which is responsible for collecting data, compiling assessment reports and acting on them to ensure continuous improvement; on top of that he is also the department internship coordinator. Having secured his PE license, and as an AutoCAD and SolidWorks Certified Professional he definitely enhances our standing with our accreditors. His teaching has also been exemplary; his recent excellence in teaching award is a proof of that. Dr. Ahmed is one of the department’s strongest assets, and I am glad we have him.”
