The University&#8217;s wireless network should not be expected to provide the same quality of service as the University&#8217;s wired network infrastructure.  When reliability and performance are critical, the University&#8217;s wired network infrastructure should be used.<\/p>\n<p>An access point (AP) is a hardware device and\/or computer software that acts as a communication hub for users of a wireless device to connect to a wired local area network (LAN). Most access points have built-in routers, while others must be connected to a router in order to provide network access. They are often referred to as Wi-Fi routers, or Wi-Fi modems or Wi-Fi cable modem routers, etc. <\/p>\n<p>In order to insure the availability of the highest quality wireless access to authorized users, all campus access points must be approved and installed by Information Technology Services (ITS). <\/p>\n<p>Access points not installed by ITS are prohibited and will be considered \u201crogue\u201d devices. Once a \u201crogue\u201d access point is discovered, it must be removed or ITS reserves the right to disable its functionality on the network. <\/p>\n<p>Violations are subject to disciplinary actions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wireless networks are not a replacement for a wired network.
