The dean provides visionary academic, administrative, and strategic leadership for a diverse college committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and community engagement. The selected candidate will begin duties on July 1, 2026.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE OPPORTUNITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The College of Education and Human Performance prepares educators, administrators, coaches, counselors, athletic trainers, and other professionals who serve schools, communities, and clinical settings. Through high-quality instruction, meaningful clinical experiences, and strong partnerships, the college supports student success and workforce development across the region.<\/p>\n<p>The college serves approximately 1,200 students through the following academic departments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Counseling and Professional Studies<\/li>\n<li>Human Performance and Sport Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Teacher Education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The college also houses the SAU branch of the Education Renewal Zone, a legislatively established P\u201320 initiative focused on improving school performance and student achievement through coordinated partnerships and resources.<\/p>\n<p>The college offers undergraduate and master\u2019s programs. Initial and Advanced Education programs are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP)<strong>,<\/strong> and the Master of Science in Kinesiology\/Coaching is accredited by the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Excellence (NCACE)<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Dean reports to the Provost\/Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as a key member of the university\u2019s academic leadership team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Dean of the College of Education and Human Performance will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as a member of the Dean\u2019s Council, working collaboratively with the Provost, Provost\u2019s Council, and other institutional leaders to advance university priorities<\/li>\n<li>Provide visionary leadership that advances the mission and strategic goals of the college and university<\/li>\n<li>Promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, advising, and assessment<\/li>\n<li>Lead educator preparation and related programs in alignment with state licensure requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices<\/li>\n<li>Support continuous improvement through the effective use of data related to enrollment, retention, candidate performance, and program outcomes<\/li>\n<li>Oversee faculty evaluation processes, including tenure, promotion, and professional development<\/li>\n<li>Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture that values shared governance, transparency, and faculty and staff development<\/li>\n<li>Support curriculum development and innovation across undergraduate and graduate programs, including online and hybrid delivery<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen partnerships with P\u201312 schools, community agencies, and regional stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Promote faculty and student research, scholarship, and creative activity<\/li>\n<li>Participate in fundraising, grant development, and external relations<\/li>\n<li>Prepare, manage, and oversee the college budget and allocated resources<\/li>\n<li>Support and participate in accreditation, program review, and compliance processes<\/li>\n<li>Teach one course annually, as appropriate to expertise and college needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a field related to one of the departments of the College<\/li>\n<li>A record of teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with appointment at the rank of associate or full professor<\/li>\n<li>Three years of administrative experience as dean, associate dean, department chair, or in a similar capacity<\/li>\n<li>Highly effective oral and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of scholarly accomplishment, such as publications in refereed journals, research awards, and\/or success in securing external funding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH THE FOLLOWING<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience in faculty and staff development<\/li>\n<li>Experience leading accreditation, assessment, or continuous improvement efforts<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of P\u201312 education systems and educator preparation<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with P-12 education leaders at the state level<\/li>\n<li>Experience building partnerships with schools, districts, and community organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with enrollment management, recruitment, or program growth<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative leadership style that values shared governance and stakeholder input<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DISCOVER MORE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>College of Education and Human Performance <\/strong>at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/education\/\">https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/education\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Counseling and Professional Studies <\/strong>at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/education\/cps\/\">https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/education\/cps\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Human Performance and Sport Sciences <\/strong>at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/hpss\/\">https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/hpss\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Teacher Education <\/strong>at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/education\/teacher-education\/\">https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/education\/teacher-education\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Education Renewal Zone\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dese.ade.arkansas.gov\/Offices\/special-projects\/education-renewal-zones\">https:\/\/dese.ade.arkansas.gov\/Offices\/special-projects\/education-renewal-zones<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All SAU faculty and staff demonstrate a commitment to the value of all members of the SAU community, to excellence in interpersonal behaviors, and effective collaboration with colleagues.
