Southern Arkansas University is searching for an Academic Advisor for Student-Athletes. This position reports to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness within the Academic Affairs Division and works collaboratively with the Athletic Department.
Duties: Provide academic advising services to student-athletes; assist student-athletes in both short term and long term academic program planning; monitor the academic progress of student-athletes; maintain records on student-athletes; foster academic success of student-athletes by assessing the need for and assigning weekly study hall requirements, as well as regular study and tutor sessions; supervise/facilitate study halls and success coaching sessions; design and facilitate workshops and teach success skills to student-athletes as necessary; meet weekly with academically at-risk student-athletes, and assist in implementing success strategies; communicate continuously with coaches regarding academic progress and eligibility concerns; communicate and collaborate with other academic advisors, departments, and programs to provide exceptional advising and programming to student-athletes; provide assistance in course registration as needed; participate in student orientations as needed and other duties as assigned. This position frequently requires evening and/or weekend work to facilitate study halls, host workshops, and engage student-athletes.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in counseling, education, or athletic administration; preference is given to candidates with athletic eligibility knowledge and having experience advising students or in academic success coaching, specifically student-athletes.
