Duties: Review documents and process university payroll; maintain general ledger, payroll accounts and create related reports; work with employees to ensure timely Payroll payment; update employee additions and changes provided by Human Resources, coordinate with other departments to receive, review, and process timesheets; process faculty, staff, student and special payroll batches; process payroll interfaces to general ledger and review and work with accounting staff to resolve posting errors; compile reports, statements, and summaries related to pay and taxes; reconcile and process miscellaneous deductions and retirement contributions; create journal entries; respond to employee payroll inquiries; respond to external payroll inquiries regarding court ordered payments, federal or state tax withholdings, employment verifications in a timely manner; assist with the preparation and submission of payroll taxes and tax forms; assist with the completion of the fiscal salary schedule to be reported in the annual financial statements; serve as a backup to payroll supervisor; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; four years of closely related payroll experience may substitute; demonstrate a high level of customer service and professionalism in all interactions; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); strong in-person, written and electronic communication skills; ability to manage sensitive and confidential information; ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize assigned job duties; experience developing methods to accomplish essential job duties in the absence of a written procedure manual; experience working within a management information system and accounting knowledge of the general ledger preferred.
