Southern Arkansas University’s College of Science and Engineering is accepting applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Biology with emphasis in aquatic ecology (freshwater or marine), effective August 2019. The candidate will lead and grow the biology department’s new degree in marine biology and develop a research program involving undergraduate students.
This rapidly growing biology department is located in a modern and well-equipped 64,000 square foot science building. Southern Arkansas University offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience, as well as an excellent fringe benefit package.
Duties: Teach an average of 12 hours per semester in upper and lower division biology courses (marine biology, ecology, oceanography, introductory biology and upper division elective courses and labs) and associated laboratories; teach upper-level electives in the applicant’s area of expertise as well as other core biology courses; supervise undergraduate research projects; serve on committees; perform scholarly activity; engage in recruitment, retention, advise students and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Doctorate degree in Biology or related field required by time of employment; have expertise in aquatic biology; ability to teach undergraduate students; excellent communication skills; ability to work well with people; have a strong desire to interact with students both in the classroom and undergraduate research projects.
