Southern Arkansas University is seeking applications for a Machinist and Laboratory Technician to join our growing Engineering Department.
Duties: perform routine machinist tasks required to produce machined parts for faculty and students; perform related duties assigned for labs, projects, research, and administrative duties tasked by engineering faculty and department chair; responsible for maintenance of the equipment in the engineering machine ship, and other labs; assist and train students with machining of parts for engineering undergraduate instructional laboratories, machining of parts for the senior design projects; aid in the manufacturing processes course; responsible for the operation associated with CNC, and milling machines, lathe, horizontal and vertical band saws, drill press, welding machines, etc.; have an understanding of basic programming related to CNC milling machines and familiarity with Auto CAD, and standard CNC software is a plus; but will train in the software and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; minimum of five (5) years machining experience required; welding experience a plus; possess strong interpersonal and oral communication skills; ability to work positively with students and faculty.
