{"id":1322,"date":"2013-04-23T14:02:45","date_gmt":"2013-04-23T19:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/?p=1322"},"modified":"2013-04-23T14:02:45","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T19:02:45","slug":"talley-hall-spotlight-311","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/2013\/04\/talley-hall-spotlight-311\/","title":{"rendered":"Talley Hall Spotlight 3\/11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Talley Hall<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Home of the Agriculture Learning Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Spring-2011-Staff-Talley1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1016\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Spring-2011-Staff-Talley1-300x159.jpg\" width=\"268\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><\/strong> Welcome to Talley!\u00a0 We currently house 148 male and female students.\u00a0 Although the majority of the Talley residents participate in the Agriculture Learning Community, we also have 3 other residential interest groups (RIGS) Education (Men), First Year Experience (Men), and the Brothers Under Christ fraternity.<\/p>\n<p>For the last 5 years, we have been building on the family atmosphere that makes this residence hall so special to those that call it home.\u00a0 When you enter the doors of Talley on a regular day, you\u2019re usually greeted by hellos and the sounds of residents roping the calf dummy.\u00a0 This is a popular sport within our walls since a lot of the residents are also on the rodeo team here at SAU.<\/p>\n<p>As the 2010 RHA community of the year, we pride ourselves on being just that: A Community.\u00a0 At any hour of the day, the lobby is a popular place for students to do homework, hangout, watch movies, or just share a friendly word of encouragement. During the Fall, we enjoyed a very successful semester.\u00a0 We held programs for the students in the hall, as-well-as, some that were open for everyone across the campus. Just to highlight a few of them:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Talley-Luau-web.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1017\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Talley-Luau-web-300x224.jpg\" width=\"169\" height=\"127\" \/><\/a>The Talley Hall Luau \u2013 was a campus wide event in which we played horseshoes, volleyball, and grilled over 100 lbs of food for around 175 students and faculty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Walk-the-Line-web.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1018\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Walk-the-Line-web-300x224.jpg\" width=\"165\" height=\"123\" \/><\/a>Walk the Line &#8211; was a program for females to break down stereotypes and common misconceptions among themselves. This is a version of the MTV show \u201cif you really knew me.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Movie Night &#8211; each Wednesday night during the semester, we watched a current hit movie in the lobby.<\/li>\n<li>Talley\u2019s Got Talent \u2013 talent show geared toward students that wanted to show off their musical instrument capabilities. \u00a0Any talent was welcomed.<\/li>\n<li>The Horseless Rodeo \u2013 this program was held in the lobby with a main event of calf roping.\u00a0 We had a sound system, a public address system, and a scoreboard.\u00a0 There were 65 teams entered into the contest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Mood-of-the-day-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1019\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/files\/2011\/03\/Mood-of-the-day-web-300x220.jpg\" width=\"165\" height=\"121\" \/><\/a>Mood of the Day Project \u2013 hosted on the girls wing of Talley and designed to promote community and closeness within our female residents.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Penny War \u2013 was a campus wide event for the residents halls to compete on the amount of money they could raise for a homeless shelter. We raised roughly $50.00 in penny\u2019s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also had a successful run competing with the surrounding Residence Halls and Organizations across the campus in various events this past semester.\u00a0 During Family Day we took 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place in the 30<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Bed Race!\u00a0 During Homecoming Week we won 1<sup>st<\/sup> Place in the Street Painting, 1<sup>st<\/sup> Place in the Banner painting, and 1<sup>st<\/sup> Place in Homecoming Display!\u00a0 We participated in all the Homecoming events and was named 2010 Homecoming Grand Champion!!
