{"id":55,"date":"2008-03-13T06:04:47","date_gmt":"2008-03-13T14:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/students.southernarkansasuniversity.info\/housing\/residential-college\/faqs\/"},"modified":"2025-10-29T09:11:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T14:11:09","slug":"faqs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/housing\/rc\/faqs\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQ&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Frequently Asked Questions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Am I required to live on-campus?<\/strong><br \/>\nSAU has a 2 year requirement to live on-campus.<br \/>\nAll full-time undergraduate students are required to live on-campus until they have completed at least 60 college credit hours or are 21 years of age.<br \/>\nStudents living with parents and community may apply for a Housing Exemption.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do I have to be admitted before I can apply for housing?<\/strong><br \/>\nYes. You must first be accepted for Admissions to the University.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nHow do I apply for on-campus Housing?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Once you are admitted, login to the student portal, MySAU.<br \/>\nThen go to the Housing Portal and the Housing Application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there a deposit required to apply for Housing?<br \/>\n<\/strong>University Housing requires a non-refundable, $100 Housing Reservation Fee to apply for Housing.<br \/>\nThis is not a deposit. It is a fee to apply for Housing. Apartments require a total of $200 Reservation Fee on-account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When is Move-in Day?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nMove-in Day is officially the Sunday before classes begin in the Fall and Spring.<br \/>\nMove-in Day for the Summer is the day before classes start.<br \/>\nWatch the University Calendar each semester for specific days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will I be able to pick my own roommate?<br \/>\n<\/strong>If you apply for Housing before Room Selection begins in spring, you will be able to join a Roommate Group on the Housing Application.<br \/>\nFrom there you can review students also looking for a roommate.<br \/>\nOtherwise, when you pick a room, you can choose a room that still needs a roommate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I choose to have a private room instead of a roommate?<br \/>\n<\/strong>There are a few Single rooms that will open to choose during Room Selection.<br \/>\nThese spaces go quickly. In some halls, private rooms will not be available due to space.<br \/>\nIf space allows after a few weeks into the semesters, Double rooms without a roommate may be closed as a private for the additional Private Room Price listed on the fee sheet.<br \/>\nIf a student has a medical need for a Private, they should apply for an accommodation with Disability Support Services as soon as possible. Priority date is May 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is a Living Learning Community or LLC?<br \/>\n<\/strong>LLCs are campus housing options that group students by similar interests or hobbies.<br \/>\nThis provides a feeling of community by having at least one thing in common already.<br \/>\nSome halls have an acceptance requirement for the LLC and agreement of participation, since spaces in that hall may be limited.<br \/>\n(Summer Housing does not have LLCs.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do I have to join a Living Learning Community or LLC?<br \/>\n<\/strong>While it is not required to be part of a LLC, it is highly recommended.<br \/>\nLLC participation is encouraged to help enrich their on-campus experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I apply for a Living Learning Community?<\/strong><br \/>\nYou apply for LLCs as part of the Housing Application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When will I receive my room assignment?<br \/>\n<\/strong>After you have made an application in the Housing Portal, you will be contacted via email during the spring with instructions on how when to select your room.<br \/>\nYou will actually select the building and room where you will live. Please check your SAU email regularly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Am I required to have a meal plan?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Every student living on-campus is required to have a meal plan according to whether they live in a hall or apartment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I choose a meal plan?<br \/>\n<\/strong>You will pick a meal plan after picking your room on the Housing Application.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I have a pet?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Pets are not allowed on-campus, except for a small fish.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What if I need a special accommodation?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Students will apply with Disability Student Services on-campus for any accommodations needed.<br \/>\nPriority deadline to submit accommodation requests is May 1. Submission of a request does not guarantee an accommodation.<br \/>\nEmotional Support Animals fall under Disability Services and accommodations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When is Move-out Day?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Housing officially closes each semester on the last day of classes.
