Staff Senate Meeting
\nMarch 12, 2008<\/p>\n

The Staff Senate met on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Reynolds 207. Senators in attendance were Marcela Brunson, Wendy Burge, Gaye Calhoun, Brenda Garrett, Charles Honza, Keli Honza, Pat King, Essie Moore, Kellye Ogle, Houston Taylor, Becki Talley, Donald Wray, Shelley Whaley, and Wilma Williams. Houston Taylor had Wayne Garner\u2019s proxy and Gaye Calhoun had Mary Hubbard\u2019s proxy.<\/p>\n

Approval of Minutes<\/p>\n

The meeting was called to order by President Kellye Ogle. A motion to accept the minutes of January 9 was made by Charles Honza and seconded by Donald Wray. The motion passed. There were no minutes from the February 13 meeting because a quorum was not present. Kellye Ogle welcomed Keli Honza and Wendy Burge as new senators to the council.<\/p>\n

Old Business<\/p>\n

Liaisons for Arkansas Staff Senates<\/p>\n

Kellye Ogle stated that she had contacted other university liaisons and they were very excited about the prospect of working with the SAU Staff Senate. The universities she contacted were UCA, ASU, UALR, and U of A at Fayetteville. Houston Taylor suggested there might be a state association for the staff senates in the state.<\/p>\n

Officer Election for President Elect<\/p>\n

Kellye Ogle noted that the election that was held in January for the President-Elect was not handled correctly and needed to be brought back before the senate for reconsideration. Nominations were reopened. Brenda Garrett nominated Shelley Whaley and Essie Moore seconded the nomination. Charles Honza nominated Keli Honza and Marcela Brunson seconded the motion. The nominations were closed and ballots were distributed and counted. Keli Honza was elected President-Elect.<\/p>\n

Committee Reports<\/p>\n

The following gave committee reports:
\nDonald Wray \u2013 Academic Appeals; Kellye Ogle \u2013 Fringe Benefits; Gaye Calhoun for Mary Hubbard \u2013 Library; Gaye Calhoun \u2013 Teaching with Technology; Charles Honza \u2013 Commencement; Houston Taylor for Wayne Garner \u2013 Faculty Senate.<\/p>\n

New Business<\/p>\n

Houston Taylor reported that the Staff Senate website was almost complete. He suggested that someone needed to be able to monitor the website and update it as needed. It was suggested that Gary Millican from University Police might be willing to monitor the sight.
\nOther<\/p>\n

Staff Breakfast<\/p>\n

The Staff Breakfast will be held on Monday, March 17.<\/p>\n

Parking Appeals<\/p>\n

Kellye Ogle discussed issues about the parking appeals and whether some things could be handled by the UPD instead of having a parking appeals committee meeting. It was also agreed that there should be a third person serving on the staff parking appeals committee that was a not in the senate. Kellye Ogle agreed to get in touch with someone about this.<\/p>\n

Student Representatives<\/p>\n

Kellye Ogle announced that Mary McMillan and Sydney Kilgore would be at the next staff senate meeting in April.<\/p>\n

Sympathy<\/p>\n

Sympathy was extended to Ida Rankin, Stephanie Manning and Teresa James, Patty Carpenter, Jeff Byrd and Sarajane Telford who have lost family members since our last meeting. Sympathy was also extended to the family of Calvin Neal.<\/p>\n

Adjournment<\/p>\n

The motion to adjourn was made by Houston Taylor and seconded by Brenda Garrett. The next meeting will be on April 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
