Staff Senate Minutes The Staff Senate met May 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. in Reynolds 210. Those in attendance were Beth Scroggins, Gaye Calhoun, Rebecca Chiles, Kellye Ogle, Pat King, Brenda Garrett, Diane Johnson, Wayne Garner, La’Tricia Davis, Roger Guevara, Linda Smith, Jill Bond, Mary Hubbard, Art Horne, and Donald Wray. Tiffany Reeves was present as a proxy for J. Kay Sawyer.<\/p>\n Approval of Minutes<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n The meeting was called to order. A motion to accept the minutes with a change was made by Gaye Calhoun. Pat King seconded the motion. Motion passed.<\/p>\n Change to “Campus Security” under the questions submitted tab to “SAU Police Department”.<\/p>\n Old Business<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n None to report.<\/p>\n Committee Reports<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n Fringe Benefits\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n Gaye Calhoun provided a report from the April meeting. No changes will be made to the prescription portion insurance program this year.<\/p>\n Since Gaye’s term is ending, a new representative to the Fringe Benefits Committee is needed to represent Staff Senate. Contact Houston Taylor regarding this position.<\/p>\n Faculty Senate\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n Cledis Stuart will give a report at the meeting in June.<\/p>\n New Business<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n Beth Scroggins welcomed the following new senators:<\/p>\n Mary Hubbard<\/p>\n Linda Smith<\/p>\n Art Horne<\/p>\n Roger Guevara<\/p>\n Donald Wray<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Election of New Officers:<\/p>\n President-Houston Taylor<\/p>\n President elect-Kellye Ogle<\/p>\n Secretary-Brenda Garrett<\/p>\n Faculty Senate Liaison-Roger Guevara<\/p>\n <\/p>\n One nomination was received for president elect. Nomination passed, none opposed.<\/p>\n One nomination was received for secretary. Nomination passed, none opposed.<\/p>\n Two nominations were received for Faculty Senate Liaison, Wayne Garner and Roger Guevara. Voting was conducted by private ballot.<\/p>\n Earl Miller Memorial Dedication\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n Houston Taylor will provide more information at the June meeting.<\/p>\n Other<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n Mary Hubbard was thanked for her service in coordinating the nominations.<\/p>\n Pat King stated that the nomination process was too quick. Beth Scroggins agreed that it was fast and that Mary Hubbard was devised a time line for elections next year which will allow more time between nominations and voting.<\/p>\n Kellye Ogle read a statement provided by Houston Taylor to thank Beth Scroggins for her service to the Staff Senate and to welcome the new senators. Beth was presented with a glass plaque to commemorate her service to the senate. Beth thanked the senate and said that she was honored that she was allowed to serve as president. Beth stated that she was pleased to see the senate become a group who didn’t mind sharing their ideas even if they were different.<\/p>\n Adjournment<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n A notion was made by Rebecca Chiles and seconded by La’Tricia Davis.
