Subject: Covid vaccine information-please read
Today, Thursday, March 11, several student workers will be receiving the Covid vaccine. As faculty and staff have experienced varying degrees of side effects after receiving the vaccine, we anticipate students may have the same experience. We ask that should students contact you tomorrow and indicate vaccine-related issues, you work with them to the extent possible to miss work, make up assignments, etc.
Likewise, many faculty and staff are receiving second-dose shots today. When possible, second-dose shots have been administered on Fridays to allow for recovery over the weekend. This is not always possible. We ask that supervisors work with faculty and staff who experience vaccine-related issues tomorrow that affect their ability to report to the office or work remotely.
Finally, please note that second-dose shots are not required exactly 28 days from the date of the first shot. The first-dose date provides information and serves as an indicator for the timeline for the second shot. Second shots are recommended to be given 28 days past the first shot, but a 4-day grace period allows for second doses anytime between days 24-28, and second doses are effective if given past day 28/up to 6 weeks past first-dose shots per current CDC guidelines. Second dose shots for SAU employees are pre-allocated, and as soon as we are notified the doses are in Magnolia and the day the clinic is scheduled, recipients will be notified. Please reach out if by day 26 you have not been contacted for your second dose.
Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of our first campus notification and press release regarding this new phenomenon known as Covid-19. We have come so far in a year. Please keep encouraging those around you to receive the vaccine, promote public health protocols, and let’s do our part to define new normal.
