The abbreviation, generally without periods, can be used thereafter.<\/li>\n<li>Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, should be spelled out in the first reference. The identifying abbreviation may be omitted following the reference because of its customary usage among schools.\u201cSAU\u201d or \u201cthe University\u201d may be used thereafter.<\/li>\n<li>All documents going to State of Arkansas officials or offices must use Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia and SAUM since this is the official state designation. This will prevent confusion.<\/li>\n<li>The abbreviations \u201cfor example\u201d and \u201cthat is\u201d should be preceded by and followed by commas, and periods should be used.\n<ul>\n<li>i.e., , e.g.,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Spell out days of the week and months of the year. Where space is limited, use the following abbreviations:\n<ul>\n<li>Sun., Mon., Tues., Wed., Thurs., Fri., Sat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Use these abbreviations for time terminology:\n<ul>\n<li>a.m., p.m. &#8211; Lowercase with periods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The abbreviation Esq.
