This is an interview with Molly Buenorostro, a recent Entrepreneurial Finance graduate of Southern Arkansas University. Molly is now thriving as a professional working for Gratus Wealth Management \u2013 Northwestern Mutual. Here, she shares her insights from her college experience, career journey, and advice for current students and graduates.<\/p>

Q \u2013 What would you say is the greatest source of inspiration at SAU?<\/strong><\/p>

Molly Buenrostro – I truly believe the source of inspiration at SAU is the professors. They genuinely believe in their students and are deeply invested in our success. Almost all of my professors were willing to go out of their way to help in any way they could, whether by providing needed resources for connections, jobs, and opportunities.<\/p>

Q \u2013 What clubs, organizations, or extracurriculars were you involved in?<\/strong><\/p>

MB \u2013 I was a part of RCBiz, Investment Club, Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and I served as a President Ambassador.<\/p>

Q \u2013 How did you land your first job after graduating?<\/strong><\/p>

MB\u2014It was through another SAU alumni. We have two other SAU alumni in our office\u2014Chase Hodges and Kori Collier! We keep the Mulerider spirit strong amongst all the Bears!<\/p>

Q \u2013 What skills do you think are the most important in your field today?<\/strong><\/p>

MB – Relationship building and people skills are the most important skills in our field. When working with clients on such a personal level, you have to be able to relate to them and build genuine trust.<\/p>

Q \u2013 What do you wish you would have known as a college student?<\/strong><\/p>

MB – In college, it was easy to focus attention on grades, degrees, and career paths. However, I’ve learned that long-term success is built on who you know and who you become. The right mentors, friendships, and opportunities can accelerate your growth more than any textbook ever could. Networking isn’t just about making connections for a job; it’s about surrounding yourself with people who challenge, inspire, and support you. My career is fulfilling, not just because of the work I do, but because of the growth mindset culture and the like-minded people I get to be around daily.<\/p>

Q \u2013 Did you face any challenges transitioning from college to the workplace?<\/strong><\/p>

MB – Honestly, yes. In college, we get used to flexible schedules and extra free time. I worked during school, but transitioning from campus life to living on my own and working 40+ hours a week was a big adjustment. It was also tough going from living next to my best friends to suddenly being hours apart. On top of that, I had to figure out how to manage home responsibilities and create a healthy work-life balance. I love my job, so working late was never an issue, but I didn\u2019t want to miss out on family time. Overall, it\u2019s been a learning experience\u2014\u00a0\u00a0 just part of stepping into the \u201creal\u201d world.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Molly Buenrostro is a financial advisor at Gratus Walth Management \u2013 Northwestern Mutal. She was an Entrepreneurial Finance graduate in 2022. Molly is passionate about helping others and loves what she gets to do every day. She is married to her best friend, Ivan, and their goofy golden retriever, Indy!
