David D. Torres is a renowned Trumpet player, educator, band-leader and arranger originally from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He holds dual masters degrees in Trumpet Performance and Wind Conducting from New Mexico State University and received his bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of South Florida.
As a professional musician, David has freelanced for many years in Florida, New York, New Mexico and Texas. His performing career at Walt Disney World lead him to be casted with the Broadway show Blast!. David performed with the Tony-Award winning show in North America and Japan as trumpet soloist for more than five years. He has been heard as lead trumpet for numerous Broadway and West End musicals, performing in North America and internationally. Some of his performing credits include: The Drowsy Chaperone, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz and The Bodyguard: The Musical (U.S. Premiere Cast). David was one of the last trumpet/conductors to lead the band for the famed Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. He served for four years as Ringling’s trumpet player and assistant musical conductor.
Aside from touring and performing, David is a champion of education for musical youth. An in-demand private instructor, lecturer, arranger, adjudicator, and band clinician throughout the country, he has given numerous master classes and lectures at colleges, universities, high schools, and music festivals. While at New Mexico State University, David worked as a graduate teaching assistant for the trumpet studio, jazz ensembles and university band’s. His duties included: sub-conducting both the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, writing music and drill (including a show, Latina Caliente) for the 200+ member “Pride of New Mexico” Marching Band, Directing and traveling with the RoadRunner Revue basketball bands (NCAA tournaments, WAC tournaments and regular season), creation and Direction of the NMSU brass choir, coaching the NMSU trumpet ensemble (2019 national quarter-finalists at the National Trumpet Competition in Lexington, KY), and Director of NMSU’s Jazz Ensemble II. He has been on staff with many award winning BOA band programs, Drum Corps and college bands. David was a member of the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps from 2000 – 2003 before becoming a musician with the nationally auditioned Disneyland All-American College Band in 2004.
Further performance credits include: The Tampa Bay Symphony, Las Cruces Symphony, Paso Del Norte Big Band, The Tampa Brass, Troika Entertainment, Paper Mill Playhouse (Tony Award Winner), FELD Entertainment, NETworks Presentations, Big League Theatricals, Kyodo Tokyo INC., Walt Disney World Entertainment, Disneyland Entertainment, and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Further study credits include: Charley Davis, Wayne Bergeron, and Mr. William Adam. David is a proud member of the International Trumpet Guild, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Texas Music Educators Association, New Mexico Music Educators Assiciation and the American Federation of Musicians.
