Social entrepreneurship (SE) means being creative in the methods you choose to address social problems, whether that be through social purposes businesses, nonprofit organizations or some combination of the two. SE is about being creative and mission focused; seeking change through innovation, collaboration and exploring new opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>The Master of Public Administration (MPA) with Social Entrepreneurship Program is designed to prepare individuals for positions of leadership in public service organizations. This program will provide a strong foundation in public policy, the organizational environment, the management of public service organizations, and the application of quantitative and qualitative analysis to decision-making. The development of critical thinking skills and self-motivation are key components of the MPA program.<\/p>\n<p>The MPA-SE emphasis may be for you if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You want to use your knowledge of the public and nonprofit sectors to address social problems with an increased awareness of business tools.<\/li>\n<li>Examples could be promoting literacy through book sales or housing for the homeless in buildings that need renovation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Professional Project<\/h3>\n<p>As a culminating experience in the Master of Public Administration program at Southern Arkansas University, all students are required to complete a professional project that demonstrates their ability to apply the skills and knowledge they obtain during the course of their studies to a real-world problem or policy issue. The student must receive prior approval in writing from the director of the MPA program before proceeding on the project. The student must be registered for SE 6113 - Professional Project during the term in which the project is completed. If a project is not completed during the term for which the student is enrolled, a grade of NC will be assigned. In order to complete the project the student must be enrolled for the credits during the term in which it will be completed. If the student is successful in completing the project a grade of CR will be assigned for the term during which the project was completed.
