The B.S.E. in K-12 Physical Education & Health consists of 120 credit hours and prepares candidates to work as K-12 teachers and coaches. Upon degree completion and successful completion of the current required Praxis tests a standard licensure and coaching endorsement is awarded. The Coaching Endorsement requirements are contained in this degree so graduates are eligible to have the Coaching Endorsement added to the initial license.<\/p>\n

The K-12 Physical Education & Health program of study is approved by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and meet Arkansas academic requirements for licensure. Most courses in these programs are taught in a traditional face-to-face classroom setting on the SAU campus, but several hybrid and online course offerings are provided within the programs. The hybrid and online course offerings help candidates create a more flexible schedule conducive to preparing a personalized plan that meets individual needs.<\/p>\n

Program Expectations<\/h2>\n

Pre-candidates must meet the requirements for admission into the Teacher Education Program before advancing in the core and upper-level education coursework. Many unique field experiences are incorporated into courses to enable candidates to work with teacher mentors in public schools. Organized campus-based experiences allow candidates to practice their teaching skillsets. Candidates must meet unconditional admissions requirements to enroll in their final semester of student teaching.<\/p>\n

To obtain a bachelor of science in education degree with a major in Physical Education and Health, candidates must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in his\/her major and supporting field (if any), and complete the pattern of courses\u00a0in their catalog.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

To complete the pathway, the candidate must earn at least a grade point average of 3.00 on all University credits (120 hours), complete the required curriculum (major courses with a C or higher), be admitted to the Educator Preparation Program unconditionally, complete the Content Knowledge Praxis II in the area of licensure and the required pedagogy assessment. Candidates must be admitted to the Educator Preparation Provider (see the College of Education and Human Performance section of the catalog for more information) and meet all CEHP requirements.\r\n
