It covers the basic business concepts while also focusing on ways to foster innovation and creativity.\u00a0 Students complete the program with the ability to prepare a business plan.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Topics Covered<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>While the entrepreneurship degree is designed to help students start their own business, it is broad and flexible enough to help students succeed in finding a job in the corporate environment. Students cover concepts from management, marketing, and finance and may use electives to add competencies in information technology useful for launching e-businesses.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Entrepreneurship Careers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Students often choose this degree if they have a business in mind or know they want to be self-employed.<\/li>\n<li>Many large companies have internal product development centers in which new markets are explored and new products developed. Even though financing is not as much of a problem in these large firms, other elements of the entrepreneurship process are much the same.<\/li>\n<li>Some occupations have high self-employment and will be supported by an entrepreneurship degree. Agricultural managers, cosmetologists, doctors, lawyers, photographers, real estate agents, and restaurant owners are some of the occupations that can benefit from an entrepreneurial degree.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/careeroutlook\/2014\/article\/self-employment-what-to-know-to-be-your-own-boss.htm\">https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/careeroutlook\/2014\/article\/self-employment-what-to-know-to-be-your-own-boss.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Student Engagement<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Developing a business plan is a major part of the entrepreneurship program.\u00a0 With this plan students can compete at the <a href=\"http:\/\/arcapital.com\/governors-cup\/\">Arkansas Governor\u2019s Cup<\/a> in Little Rock for cash prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The Emerging Entrepreneur club at SAU provides a supportive environment to work with other interested and engaged students on ideas or business plans.\u00a0 Additionally, the club works with the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center on program topics for business startups.\u00a0 The club has speakers and provides a way to interact with experienced entrepreneurs. An affiliation with the national <a href=\"http:\/\/www.c-e-o.org\/\">Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization<\/a>, provides students access to additional opportunities and resources.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Faculty Expertise<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tim Wise owns and manages a small writing, design, and publishing studio. He has worked with students who competed successfully in the Arkansas Governor\u2019s Cup competition and was involved in the initial development of the competition.<\/li>\n<li>Megan Whitehead served as director of the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center consulting with small business owners and entrepreneurs in Southern Arkansas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"learning-goals\" class=\"alert alert-info\">\n<h3>Learning Goals<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Graduates from the College of Business can communicate effectively.<\/li>\n<li>Our graduates are prepared to be socially responsible citizens.<\/li>\n<li>Our graduates can think critically, solve problems, and make informed decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Our graduates can use technology effectively in their fields.<\/li>\n<li>Our graduates have content knowledge in their chosen fields and the necessary skills to be successful.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Entrepreneurship degree provides students with the foundational knowledge they need to create, market, and fund new businesses and products.
