The music curriculum prepares students to become proficient musicians, music educators, and capable instrumentalists who are able to demonstrate the performance skills and knowledge for sound musicianship.\u00a0 This specialization serves students who are planning to pursue a graduate degree in performance by increasing the study on their primary instrument.<\/p>\n

Learning Goals<\/h3>\n

  1. Our graduates demonstrate an understanding of the common elements and organizational patterns of music and possess the ability to employ them in aural, verbal, written and visual analysis.<\/li>\n
  2. Our graduates demonstrate basic knowledge of music history, diverse performing traditions and repertoires through the present time.<\/li>\n
  3. Our graduates demonstrate the ability to synthesize theoretical concepts and historical perspectives in arranging and adapting musical scores, and in rudimentary composing and improvising.<\/li>\n
  4. Our graduates use computer and internet applications to assist in learning theoretical concepts as well as arranging and performing skills.<\/li>\n

    Instrumental Music (16 hours)<\/h4>\r\nMUED 1000 - Concert and Recital Attendance (6 semesters)\r\nMUED 1001 - Fundamentals of Conducting\r\nMUED 3012 - Instrumental Conducting\r\nMUED 3202 - Media Applications Orchestration and Arranging\r\n11 hours of upper-level Music electives\r\n\r\n*MUTH 1093 is a remedial course taken in the first semester of study if not exempted by exam. Credit for this course does not count towards the major requirements.\r\n\r\n**All candidates for the BFA in Music Performance must present public recitals during their junior year (MUJR 3000) and senior year (MUSR 4000). The junior recital will be a half recital of 25 minutes of music and the senior recital will be a full recital of 50 minutes of music.
