About the Master of Science in Business Analytics

Master the analytics tools needed to problem solve and make strategic decisions in a business setting with a Master’s of Science in Business Analytics. This is a flexible program that only requires 30 hours to complete.

Pick Two Elective Courses:

IS 5313. Information Systems Analytics. This course covers collecting, sorting, filtering, analyzing, and storing organizational data in order to improve business functions. Students will build experience in the use of various tools such as R programming and/or Tableau.

IS 6073. IS Research Project. The professional project is intended to be an applied research project/capstone for the MS BA degree. It should demonstrate a level of competence on the part of the student that is expected of one with a professional degree. Students are given the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of information systems theory, practice, analysis and research skills and apply them to real-world information system problems. It must be approved by the professor to ensure it is at the appropriate skill level.

IS 6983. Field Experience in Data Analytics. A structured field experience relevant to (major field insert one of the following: Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, Economics, IS, SE or SCM). Each field experience is designed to provide a representative and meaningful learning experience for the participating student. As needed.

SCM 6063. Supply Chain Management. Students will learn that strategic supply chain management is necessary to compete in the global economic environment. Further, they will learn the importance of integrating and coordinating business processes throughout the supply chain from supplier’s supplier to the ultimate customer/consumer. They will learn the role and importance that ERP information systems play in successful supply chain management and the importance of technologies such as RFID in supporting those ERP systems. They will learn the role that supply chain management plays in the implementation of environmental sustainability practices. They will learn the strategies and techniques necessary to build the relationships among supply chain partners necessary for successful competition at the supply chain level. Students will review the current supply chain management literature and will statistically analyze the supporting datasets. As needed.

SCM/IS 6033. Supply Chain Security. Securing the global supply chain, while ensuring smooth functioning, is essential to our national security and economic prosperity. This vital system provides the goods that feed our domestic critical infrastructures and support our way of life. This course describes how to effectively secure this important set of processes from an ever-evolving set of threats, both locally and internationally. Fall, odd years.

SCM/IS 6053. Supply Chain Industry 4.0 Technologies. Students will gain knowledge of how Industry 3.0 data and information sharing technologies (such as ERP and RFID) combine with Industry 4.0 technologies (such as Blockchain, Industrial Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence) to improve supply chain transparency and traceability and supply chain performance through a review of the current supply chain information sharing research. Students will exhibit the ability to assess the role of the Industry 3.0 and 4.0 technologies in support of supply chain management by statistically analyzing a recently collected datasets. SCM/IS 6143 Sustainable SCM Practices. Cross-Referenced with SE 6143.This course includes review of the literature related to sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) and complete an empirical investigation of the impact of sustainability within a supply chain context on organizational and supply chain performance. This investigation requires the use of SPSS software to assess validity and reliability of measurement scales, to develop and interpret tables and graphs, and to conduct and interpret the results of statistical analysis. Spring, odd years.

The M.S. in Business Analytics is offered by the Rankin College of Business at SAU and is fully accredited by AACSB International, the premier accrediting body for colleges and schools of business. Fewer than 5% of all business programs worldwide are accredited by AACSB, which indicates the quality of our program.

GMAT not required.  Must meet admission requirements for the School of Graduate Studies.

Undergraduate Course Requirements

A student may be admitted into the MS. BA program if he/she holds a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university regardless of the undergraduate field of study. Should a student have an undergraduate degree other than business, prerequisites would include:

  • Survey of Accounting (Sophomore or above),
  • Three hours of business finance or financial management (junior level or above),
  • Three hours of statistics (at the junior level or above),
  • Three hours of principles of marketing (at the junior level or above),
  • Three hours of micro-economics (sophomore level or above), and

Specific Degree Requirements

The MSBA Curriculum is designed primarily for graduates of a Bachelor of Business Administration Program, but graduates of other programs can enter the program by completing a 15 hour prerequisite program.

The MSBA program will consist of 24 hours of core courses and six hours of electives. A student can choose to complete courses in a traditional night program, through online delivery, or through a combination of the two.

Data analytics makes decision-making five times faster in a business setting, so it is no coincidence sixty percent of companies around the world use data and analytics to develop strategic plans for their businesses and maximize cost-efficiency. With this degree, candidates will learn how to analyze large data sets and generate data-informed business reports which provide insights on how to boost productivity. The career field of business analytics is constantly growing, with a projected growth of 25% percent by 2030.
