{"id":558,"date":"2013-04-20T11:55:59","date_gmt":"2013-04-20T16:55:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/?p=558"},"modified":"2013-05-20T12:08:18","modified_gmt":"2013-05-20T17:08:18","slug":"congraulations-dr-mckinnon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/2013\/04\/20\/congraulations-dr-mckinnon\/","title":{"rendered":"Congraulations, Dr. McKinnon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Duncan McKinnon successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation yesterday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.\u00a0 McKinnon&#8217;s dissertation, entitled &#8220;Battle Mound: Exploring Space, Place, and History of a Red River Caddo Community in Southwest Arkansas,&#8221; is the product of a seven year collaboration between Duncan and the Arkansas Archeological Survey&#8217;s Southern Arkansas Research Station.\u00a0 McKinnon focused his project on Battle Mound, an important Caddo mound site in Lafayette County.\u00a0 He marshaled historical archeological data&#8211;excavations on Battle Mound from the 1940s and 1980s&#8211;and a large amount of geophysical data to explore settlement patterns and help fill in gaps in our understanding of Caddo culture history.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_371\" style=\"width: 673px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/files\/2012\/09\/100_3292.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-371\" class=\" wp-image-371   \" alt=\"Battle Mound\" src=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/files\/2012\/09\/100_3292.jpg\" width=\"663\" height=\"498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/files\/2012\/09\/100_3292.jpg 1800w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/files\/2012\/09\/100_3292-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/web.saumag.edu\/aas\/files\/2012\/09\/100_3292-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-371\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Duncan McKinnon at Battle Mound.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>McKinnon&#8217;s committee was chaired by Dr. Ken Kvamme (University of Arkansas) and included Drs.
