\u2018Tis the season!\u00a0 Time for the annual Kadohadacho holiday potluck and talk\u2026and this year we are adding an open house to our activities. The Southern Arkansas University Research Station of the Arkansas Archeological Survey (AAS-SAU) will be open to all visitors starting at 5pm on Tuesday, December 11\u2014the Research Station is located in the Bruce Center, Room 103, on the bottom floor of the Bruce Center building (for directions & map to the AAS-SAU see<\/a> our website<\/a>).\u00a0 We will have artifacts from our recent work at Washington and Dooley\u2019s Ferry on display as well as plenty of prehistoric artifacts to look at.<\/p>\n

The open house will run from 5pm until 6:30pm when we will have a potluck supper in room 104 of the Bruce Center (the classroom adjoining the AAS-SAU Research Station)\u2014bring a dish and enjoy the food!<\/p>\n

At 7pm our program will be given by Tim Mulvihill, the AAS archeologist with the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith Research Station.\u00a0 Mulvihill will talk about the ongoing archeological project at the Drennan-Scott House in Van Buren, AR. (Note:\u00a0 Due to the open house, the potluck and program will both be in Bruce Center, Room 104, NOT<\/strong> our usual room in the Reynolds Center!)<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n

In 2005, the Drennen-Scott Historic Site, home to one of Van Buren\u2019s founders, was acquired by the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. The original part of the house was constructed in 1838 with many additions through the years. As part of the rehabilitation of the property into a museum and teaching facility, Tim Mulvihill, of the UA-Fort Smith Research Station of the Arkansas Archeological Survey, conducted investigations at the site starting in 2006. Work has continued to the present with the help of Society members and UAFS students. Several forgotten features of the house have been rediscovered, along with buried foundations of former outbuildings in the backyard.<\/p>\n
