The Red River Chapter is the southwestern portion of the Arkansas Archeological Society. We meet during the academic year at Southern Arkansas University, in Magnolia. Our monthly meetings feature speakers from around the region involved in archeological research. We also, in collaboration with the Arkansas Archeological Survey, host fieldwork opportunities and laboratory days that let people from the community participate in the archeological research process. The statewide Society has an annual Training Program that offers focused courses on different topics in archeology, and an annual conference that features the results of local research. All are welcome to join us to learn and get engaged in researching and preserving Arkansas’s unique and precious heritage!

The Arkansas Archeological Survey is developing a number of research opportunities. Check their Facebook page to get more information on them as they become available.

Our meetings occur every second Tuesday of the month during the academic year. Meetings are held at 7:00 in the Reynolds Center at Southern Arkansas University, with the exception of our December potluck meeting, which starts at 6pm with a group dinner.

Our upcoming and past speakers are:

04: Amanda Regnier (OAS): Spiro Fieldwork 12: Emily Beahm (ARAS-WRI): Mississippian Garden 09: Carl Drexler (ARAS-SAU): Archeology in Southwest Arkansas: Opportunities and Activities in 2015-2016 12: Dr. Carol Colannino (ARAS-SAU) 12: Dr. Jamie Brandon (ARAS-SAU): Bear Grease in the Bear State 12: Mr. Tim Mulvihill (ARAS-UAFS): Recent Archeological Investigations at the Drennen-Scott House, Van Buren, AR 12: Mr. Robert Scott (ARAS-ASU/Southern Illinois University): Kasita: Artifact Distributions, Activities and Material Culture at a Historic Lower Creek Indian Town

Welcome!
