Mrs. Barbara Howell is the new Assistant Director for the Upward Bound I Program.
Mrs. Howell attended high school in Fort Knox, Kentucky before moving to Arkansas and graduating from Strong High School. She holds an Associate of Arts degree from South Arkansas Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, and an Executive Master’s of Public Health from Southern Arkansas University. While attending SAU, she was a member of Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Science, Arkansas Delta Chapter.
She was employed by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at the Area Health Education Center of South Arkansas for nineteen years prior to becoming employed at SouthArk as the GAIN Grant Health Sciences Career Advisor in 2007. Earlier this year, Mrs. Howell accepted a position as the SouthArk SAHO Health Sciences Career Advisor. She began her employment at SAU on Monday, September 20.
Barbara is married to Lynnwood Howell, and has two children, two step-children, and two grandchild-ren. She lives in Magnolia, Arkansas where she enjoys working with her church, fishing, and spend-ing time with her family. She is active in her community, and serves on the Columbia County Crisis Center Board of Directors, Lion Oil Community Advisory Panel, South Arkansas Fight (SAFA) Aids Board of Directors, and is a member of the SouthArk STARS organization.
