Columbia County Angel Tree
The chemistry club, Lambda Alpha Beta (LAB), in conjunction with the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, has co-coordinated the Columbia County Angel Tree for the past several years. This program works with the help of Columbia County Department of Human Services (DHS) to ensure that the children in need in the county receive Christmas gifts. The student organizations coordinate the placing of angels on the tree, distribution of angels to sponsors, receipt of gifts from sponsors, and the distribution of the gifts to those families served by the Angel Tree. This is a daunting task for any student groups made all the more special that the students find so much time to donate in the weeks leading not only up to Christmas, but also their own final exams. It has been very rewarding for all involved as we have seen the number of children sponsored on the tree rise from 250 to up over 900 in the past few years. Please contact Dr. Tim Schroeder for more information.
The SAU Community Garden has the potential to provide a strong collaborative outreach service within our campus community and the community. We are making a commitment, along with our faculty, students and staff to develop a community garden which is planted, maintained and harvested for the purpose of supporting the Magnolia Stewpot and the Magnolia Homeless Shelter. The community garden is led by the Agriculture department. Please contact Dr. Jeff Miller for more information.
City Wide Clean Up
The Magnolia Ministers sponsors a city wide clean up. The goal is to beautify Magnolia with one day of work. Students and faculty from across the College of Science and Technology volunteer as a part of the clean-up crews. Please contact Ms. Sarajane Telford for more information.
