Lambda Alpha Beta (or LAB) is the chemistry club on the campus of SAU. The club is a student organization with membership open to anyone, but specifically intended for students in the sciences. Through membership in the club, students build relationships with their peers, the faculty, and the community. The club meets regularly during the school year.
While not considered to be a service organization, Lambda Alpha Beta has played a large role in the community; both on and off campus. Over the past few years, Lambda Alpha Beta has sponsored free tutoring to students in chemistry courses such as college chemistry, university chemistry, and organic chemistry. This service was initiated by the student members and is available weekly at no cost to the students using the service. Additionally and with the help of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, LAB has played a prominent role in the Columbia County Angel Tree for the past three years. This program operates over the holidays and matches up donors with needy children in the county. The donors select the “angels” they wish to shop for and return the gifts for the organizations to distribute to the families in need. This past year, over 450 children were able to receive Christmas gifts through the program.
Anyone interested in the club should contact Dr. Tim Schroeder in the Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry.
