Mission and Vision

Department of Agriculture Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Agriculture at Southern Arkansas University is to construct, integrate, expand, and disperse knowledge to all students in the agricultural food, fiber, and natural resources system within a positive and safe learning environment. To positively affect necessary change for the improvement of social, economic, and/or environmental conditions of all individuals influenced by our agricultural and natural resource systems, we exhibit an external focus, and eagerly receive input from our key stakeholders including practitioners in agricultural businesses, agricultural leadership entities, public school agricultural teachers, community college agricultural faculty, extension professionals, agricultural science clientele and any other related agricultural enterprise. As a result, this enables us to provide premier academic programs, effective outreach, and encourages relevant scholarship.

Department of Agriculture Vision

The Department of Agriculture seeks universal preeminence as being one of the top collegiate agriculture departments in the state of Arkansas due to the technical competence and positive leadership of faculty, farm and staff employees, as well as to the necessary support of the university administration and board of trustees. The Department’s reputation will be based upon excellence in pedagogy, discovery, and application of knowledge, creative activity, and engagement regarding current and emerging aspects of agricultural education, sciences and the business sector.
