Project Pal Peer Mentoring Program
Project Pal is a peer mentoring program for students of color who are entering freshmen or who have transferred from other institutions. The program is designed to assist students in making the transition from high school to college, in addition to making them feel more comfortable on campus. The freshmen are mentored by upper-class students who provide a continuous source of information, support, and referral services. 60+
60+ is a retention tool designed to keep African-American students, who have completed 60 or more credit hours, abreast of the necessary requirements and/or possible changes needed to graduate. The program provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, and administrators to address issues and problems that students of color encounter. The group meets monthly (usually the third Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m.) with the university president, members of the faculty, and staff members to discuss problems, issues, and possible solutions to be implemented. Project Pal Day
Usually scheduled within the first two weeks of the fall semester, Project Pal Day is a day of orientation and celebration for African-American freshmen. The day encompasses a cookout, an informal Greek step show, introductions to Project Pal mentors, to multicultural faculty and staff, and to student organizations that target African-Americans The program is usually followed by a dance to allow freshmen the chance to get better acquainted with their classmates, upperclass students, and University personnel.
