On behalf of the Student Government Assocation (SGA), I would like to be the first to formally welcome you to Southern Arkansas University. Whether you are just beginning your college career, starting over, or returning to our great university, now is a great time to be a Mulerider!
SAU has over 100 different organizations here on campus. I can promise that you will find something that you are interested in. There are so many things to do on campus when you get involved. In addtion to the many great organizations, SAU also offers many free student services such as, University Health Services, Counseling and Testing Centers, the Employment Resource Center, and various tutoring services to help you throughout your stay at our University.
This year will be a great year. The new Mulerider Activity Center (MAC) is finally open. I can honestly say that I have been looking forward to this opening for a while now. THis year SGA will also be initiating our “Go Green” project and doing so many programs with that.
The Student Government Association meets every other Monday at 4:00 pm in 205 Reynolds Center. All of our meetings are open to the student body, and we encourage you to come and take part in our discussions. SGA is a voice for all students. We want to represent you to the best of our ability. The best way for this to happen is for you to show up and talk. SGA also has an office in 201 Reynolds Center and downstairs in the MAC. Please feel free to stop by and let your voice be heard.
The 2011-2012 SGA executive board is: Vice President Amanda Thurkill (Junior, Junction City, AR); Secretary Hayden Kopplin (Sophomore, Three Rivers, TX); Chief Justice Augustus West (Sophomore, Parkdale, AR); and I am a junior from Maud, TX.
The SGA is composed of elected students who represent their colleges. These students were elected to give you a voice and a hand in what goes on in our university. We are here because you have faith in us and put us here. I hope you have a great year academically and personally. Remember to get out, be active, and most of all, have fun. These are going to be the best years of your life, if you let them!
Chris L. Harris, SGA President 2011-2012
