Southern Arkansas University

MBA Admission Requirements

A student may be admitted into the MBA program if he/she holds a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university regardless of the undergraduate field of study. Should a student have an undergraduate degree other than business, prerequisites would include six hours of principles of accounting (sophomore level or above), and three hours each of statistics (at the junior level or above), principles of marketing (junior level or above), micro-economics (sophomore level or above), business finance (junior level or above), organizational theory and behavior or principles of management (junior level or above).

Unconditional admission:

To be admitted, an applicant must have

  1. An overall GPA of at least 2.5 or a 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
  2. A weighted score computed from grades (overall GPA or last 60-hour GPA) and GMAT score (less than five years old.) The weight score must equal or exceed 1,000.
The weighted score is computed as follows:
Undergraduate GPA x 200 + GMAT score =1,000 or more.
  3. Application for admission to Graduate Studies (www.saumag.edu/graduate).
  4. Official transcript(s) from all institutions of higher education that the student has attended sent directly from the college/university (one should reflect a bachelor’s degree).

Conditional Admission

Any student who does not meet the above requirements because of GPA and/or GMAT scores may be considered for conditional admission. The minimum requirements for conditional status are ALL of the following:

  1. A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above out of a 4.00 system or 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
  2. Application for admission to Graduate Studies (www.saumag.edu/graduate).
  3. Official transcript(s) from all institutions of higher education that the student has attended sent directly from the college/university (one should reflect a bachelor’s degree).
  4. A weighted score computed from grades (overall GPA or last 60-hour GPA) and GMAT score (less than five years old.) The weight score must equal or exceed 900.
The weighted score is computed as follows:
Undergraduate GPA x 200 + GMAT score =900 or more.

Conditional status may be changed to unconditional status when a student earns a minimum of 12 hours of graduate credit at Southern Arkansas University, provided he/she has a “B” (3.0) average on all work pursued for graduate credit, including no grade lower than “C” (2.0) and only one course with a grade of “C.” If a student fails to meet the requirements for removal of conditional status after earning 12 hours of graduate credit, he/she will be denied continuance in graduate courses. Students on conditional admission status may take no more than six hours in any semester.
