Graduate Students Procedures for Applying for a Student Loan

1. File the current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa).  www.fafsa.ed.gov
2. Complete a loan application. You can either mail it in or file it online by going to www.saumag.edu and clicking on financial aid.
3. If this is the first time that you are getting a loan at Southern Arkansas University, you will need to complete an on-line entrance interview. Follow the steps listed below. Once we receive notification that you have completed your entrance counseling, we will finish processing your loan.
   1. Visit http://www.saumag.edu/finaid/
   2. Select “Entrance Interview”
   3. Click on “Student Loan Counseling Interview”
   4. Click on “Stafford Entrance”
   5. After reading the instructions, begin the test by completing Step 1 at the bottom of the page
   6. Read the information provided on the left side of the screen and answer all the questions on the right side of the screen. Click on “Submit Answers”
   7. After finishing the test, you will receive an online form to complete. Please provide all the requested information, review it, and click “submit: The information will be sent to your school financial aid office. Print the confirmation page or note your confirmation number for your records
4. If this is the first time that you are receiving a loan from the lender you have chosen, you must complete a master promissory note. This can be done online AFTER you have received your loan notification from the Office of Financial Aid.
   You may access the application at: www.saumag.edu/finaid/, select Online MPN. Once you have completed your portion of the application we will be able to continue processing your loan request.
5. For summer loans, the Office of Financial Aid will need a copy of your schedule as well as a short summer form completed. These forms are available in the Office of Financial Aid around the middle of March.
