Southern Arkansas University annually awards 20 one-year departmental scholarships to undergraduate students currently enrolled. The scholarships are $2,500 for the fall semester and $2,500 for the spring semester.
These scholarships are available for students majoring in the following departments:
- College of Business (5 awards)
- Accounting /Finance/Economics
- Management/Marketing/IS
- Recreation
- College of Education (5 awards)
- Teacher Education
- Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation
- College of Liberal & Performing Arts (5 awards)
- Art and Design
- Behavioral and Social Sciences
- English and Foreign Languages
- History, Political Science, and Geography
- Music
- Theatre and Mass Communication
- College of Science & Technology (5 awards)
- Agriculture
- Biology
- Mathematics and CSCI
- Nursing
- Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics
Eligibility
To qualify, the student:
- must have attended SAU, Magnolia for at least two semesters and have sophomore (30 semester hours), junior or senior standing.
- must not have a baccalaureate degree.
- must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 (on a 4.0 scale).
- must have a declared major in the department from which the scholarship is sought and, if awarded, continue in that major for the duration of the scholarship.
- must not be receiving an SAU academic scholarship concurrently with departmental scholarship, should it be awarded.
To Apply
- Certify that no prior baccalaureate degree was awarded.
- Complete a brief application available online or from the college dean of your major.
Scholarships are for one year only and are awarded competitively each year. Prior year recipients must re-apply and are eligible for competitive consideration in their junior and senior years. Recipients must complete a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours each semester with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to be eligible for the first and second semester of the award. This scholarship award will be rescinded if the recipient does not earn a minimum of 12 credit hours and the required cumulative 3.00 grade point average at the end of the 2014 spring semester. All students who apply will be notified if selected or not selected.
