Purpose

The PRAXIS Series is an Educational Testing Services (ETS) program which provides test and other services for states to use as a part of their teacher certification process. The three categories of assessments in the PRAXIS Series correspond to the three milestones in the development of a teacher: entering the teacher training program, graduating from college and entering the profession, and the first year of teaching. The state of Arkansas requires prospective teachers to take the PRAXIS Core Academic Skills for Educators(Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) and the following tests of the PRAXIS II Series: Principles of Learning and Teaching or Pedogogy, and the Specialty Area tests. Teacher candidates should consult the PRAXIS website or their State Department’s website for current requirements.

Description

Praxis™ Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core)

Praxis™ Core Academic Skills for Educators (Core) Tests measure academic skills in reading, writing and mathematics. These tests were designed to provide comprehensive assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates entering teacher preparation programs.  The PRAXIS CORE is one of the requirements for entrance into the teacher’s education program at Southern Arkansas University.  The Praxis Core tests are delivered on computer. They are administered through an international network of test centers. The Core tests are offered during specific testing windows.

PRAXIS II: Subject Assessments measures knowledge the candidate will teach. They also measure the general and subject-specific pedagogical skills and knowledge. The tests are both paper and computer based. The PRAXIS II: Subject Assessments tests required for certification by the State of Arkansas include:

  • Principles of Learning and Teaching. Students enrolled in Southern Arkansas University’s Teacher Education Program must pass one Principles of Learning and Teaching test in his/her specific teaching area prior to student teaching.
  • Subject Assessments/Specialty Area Tests. Students enrolled in Southern Arkansas University’s Teacher Education Program must pass their specialty area test(s) prior to student teaching.

Getting your Praxis Scores

There are two ways you can receive your scores:

Online

Your official score report will be available online via your My Praxis account on the score release date. (See table above for exact dates.) Your scores will also be sent to up to three institutions/agencies you selected during the registration process.

Online scores are downloadable for one calendar year from the score reporting date. After one year, your score report will no longer be available and you will need to request additional score reports for a $40 fee (per request). We recommend saving a copy of your score report for future reference.

Note: You must create a My Praxis account in order to access your scores, even if you registered by mail or phone.

Phone

Some test takers prefer to access their scores by phone. Scores for paper-delivered tests are generally available approximately four days earlier by phone than by web. There is a $30 fee for this service.

Note: Scores are not reported to institutions or agencies by phone. The phone service is for your information only.

You will need the following to access our automated service:
