GRE

GRADUATE RECORDS EXAM (GRE)

Purpose

Scores from the GRE General Test or the alternative test, Miller’s Analogy Test (MAT), are required for admission to the Southern Arkansas Universirty, College of Graduate Studies. The General Test measures skills that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are not related to any specific field of study. The General Test yields separate scores for the verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing related to success at the graduate level of education. The GRE General Test is an adaptive, computer-based test (CBT). A paper-pencil version of the test is also offered.

Computer-Based General Test

  • The Analytical Writing (AW) is a 75 minute section with 2 writing tasks. You must present your perspective on an issue timed for 45 minutes and analyze an argument timed for 30 minutes. This section will always appear as the first section of the test.
  • Verbal: 30 minute section with 30 questions
  • Quantitative: 45 minute section with 28 questions

The computer-based GRE is an adaptive test which means that the next question the examinee is presented with is based on the answer to the previous question. As a result, examinees are not able to go back and change their answers.
