Management Information Systems
Management Information Systems is the study of information systems focusing on their use in business and management. MIS not only includes the technical issues surrounding the development, use, and impact of information systems in an organization but focuses on the behavioral issues in applying information systems to a business situation productively. The MIS program at Southern Arkansas University emphasizes both information systems and technology, enabling graduates to define, analyze, design, construct, and manage information systems.
What can you do with a degree in MIS?
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, MIS is still among the top ten degrees sought by businesses seeking new hires. Graduates in MIS may find careers in networking, systems support, web design, programming, and database design.
What is unique about the SAU MIS Program?
SAU’s program equips students with a wide array of tools for managing information technology. The MIS curriculum includes coverage of computer programming, database design, networks and data communications, systems analysis, managerial decision making, and managerial aspects of organizational information systems. The strength of the major is its combination of technology skills with a thorough grounding in the principles of all the functional areas of business. SAU’s MIS graduates have been hired by such firms as Cardinal Health in Dublin, Ohio, Hewlett-Packard in Houston, Texas, Wal-Mart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, and Murphy Oil, a Fortune 500 company headquartered in El Dorado, Arkansas.
