Marketing
What is Marketing?
Marketing is about identifying and meeting human and social needs. The marketing process includes choosing a target market, or group of buyers and potential buyers, most likely to need the product and buy it at a price that satisfies the buyer while providing a profit to the seller. Once the target market is identified, products are designed and developed, distribution plans are formed that determine where and how those products should be sold, the right prices for the products are set, and promotional plans with advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, and public relations are created. If you enjoy meeting, learning about, and helping people, or if you are creative, marketing may be the major for you.
What can you do with a degree in marketing?
Marketers are involved in all aspects of business from product development to selling the product to the final customer. Careers in advertising, public relations, retailing – either as a buyer or as a manager, sales, direct marketing, product development, small business management and many other areas are possible with a degree in marketing.
What is unique about our marketing program?
Students majoring in marketing have the advantage of a “hands-on” training. From Integrated Marketing Communication to Marketing Research, students will work with actual businesses to provide advertising plans, perform marketing research, and develop marketing plans. This prepares them to step into jobs with organizations such as WalGreens, Wal-Mart, DiscoverFinancial, and Enterprise Rentals, as well as with advertising agencies and in the sales profession.
