As excited incoming SAU freshman come to campus throughout the summer for BAM (Becoming a Mulerider) orientation, SAU Communications is going to pull a select few academic achievers aside and highlight them in a new series called, “Mulerider Freshman Spotlights.” Check in weekly for new such features so you can start to meet the Mulerider class of 2017.
Brad and Brent Beckham
“In high school, we would take a rope with us to the track meets. It’s kind of a chick magnet,” Brad said. “You just rope ‘em and get their number. It worked out.”
The Bekham twins from New Diana, Texas, competed in state cross country for four years and state high school rodeo, and were involved with state horse judging. They have a list of accolades from their running and roping, and they plan to continue in cross country and rodeo at SAU.
They also both plan to pursue biology degrees. Brad plans to be pre-pharmacy while Brent is going to be pre-veterinarian.
Anthony Jordan from Liberty Eylau High School in Texarkana, Texas, is a little reserved with it comes to showing off his musical talents in public, but he is ready to hit the Mulerider gridiron and wow SAU football fans.
Jordan plans to be a Mass Communications major at SAU. He was a Texas all-state band member, can play the piano and the drums, and can even write music and sing. He claims he can do a good cover of the Temptation’s “My Girl,” just not in public.
He is looking forward to making new friends and meeting new people at SAU. Being that he is pretty much open to doing anything, he will probably meet people from all across SAU’s campus.
Academically, McGraw said she is going to be in agriculture and pre-health at SAU. She said in high school she graduated with Ag honors and was a sports medicine completer and a medical completer. Outside of class, she was an FFA officer and a trap shooter.
She is looking forward to meeting new people at SAU and enjoying new experiences, which she hopes will include volunteering as a mentor in Magnolia for Big Brother Big Sister.
